GENERAL PLYMOUTH ELECTION CYCLE OVERVIEW

How our local voting cycles work:

​

1. The Annual Spring Municipal Cycle

  • When: Every mid-May (Typically the third Saturday).

  • What it Decides: Local Town Government. Voters choose Select Board seats, School Committee members, local town meeting members, and decide on local municipal budget overrides or initiatives.

 

2. The Biennial Fall State & Federal Cycle

  • When: Even-numbered years (September Primaries, November General Elections).

  • What it Decides: State and national lawmakers, the Governor's ticket, Congress, and all binding state ballot questions/statute referendums.

  • Voter Registration Deadline: August 22, 2026

  • In-Person Early Voting Window: August 22 – August 28, 2026

  • Vote-by-Mail Application Deadline: August 25, 2026 (Closes at 5:00 PM)

  • Mail-In Ballot Return Deadline: Must be received by 8:00 PM on September 1, 2026

  • Note: Daily voting hours vary. The Town Clerk releases the official hours 5 days before the early voting window opens.

Important Primary Voting Rules:

  • Separate Executive Votes: Massachusetts does not use a joint ticket in the primary. You must cast two individual, distinct votes—one for Governor and one for Lieutenant Governor. They will merge into a single ticket later for the November election.

  • Uncontested Seats Count: Several incumbents are running unopposed within our party. Your vote for them is still legally required to formally certify their nomination for the general election.

  • Check Your Precinct: Your ballot will change depending on your neighborhood. Use the table below to check your state representative based on your precinct number.

NOVEMBER 2026 GENERAL ELECTION

📅 Election Day Details

General Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Polling Hours: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Ballot Type: Massachusetts General Election Ballot 

 

In the General Election, all registered voters receive the same ballot. Democratic nominees selected in the September Primary will appear alongside nominees from other parties and independent candidates. The November ballot may include statewide ballot questions in addition to candidate races. Details will be posted once the final ballot is certified.

⏱ Critical Deadlines

Voter Registration Deadline:  October 24, 2026

In-Person Early Voting Window: October 17 – October 30, 2026

Vote-by-Mail Application Deadline: October 27, 2026 (Closes at 5:00 PM)

Mail-In Ballot Return Deadline: Must be received by 8:00 PM on Election Day.

Exception: Mailed domestic ballots postmarked by Election Day may be counted if received within three days after the election.
